A protester is being credited with helping track down and identify the man who shot two police officers Wednesday night.That protester says he was walking among a peaceful group in the area of east Broadway and south Preston when the crowd started to lose direction.He says he heard police deploy a flash bang to break up the crowd, that’s when he says a man who was just feet away from him, fired his gun. The protester didn’t want to be identified on camera, but spoke to WLKY by phone.“I heard two gun shots right behind me, I turned around, this all happened within a second or two. I saw the shooter wearing a bright tie-dye hoodie. he was shooting directly at the police and fired about 2 or 3 shots while running then fired more shots then ran down the alley way 44,” he said.Police say the gunman was Larynzo Johnson, 26, who is facing assault and wanton endangerment charges. The witness says after the shooting, he followed Johnson to a gas station where Johnson was attempting to blend in. He says he told a group of officers what he saw and they were able to move in and make the arrest. The protester tells WLKY he wants people to know that most protesters do not want to harm police, they just want justice for Breonna.
