A pregnant woman was fatally shot inside a Maryland home from outside gunfire and her baby is in critical condition, Howard County police said.County police said officers were called around 11 p.m. Friday to a home in Columbia, Maryland, for a report of several shots fired into the back of a house.Police said officers found that multiple bullets entered a residence from outside, striking Rabiah Ahmad, 30, who was staying at the house. She was taken to Shock Trauma, where she died.Ahmad was 28 weeks pregnant and doctors delivered the baby, who is in critical condition. Family said the baby is doing OK.No one else was injured in the incident.”There was an initial screaming from (what) sounded like a man, I guess from the panic after the woman had been shot,” said Eric Pina, a neighbor. “It’s frightening to think about something like that.”Police do not yet have any suspect information. Police said detectives are working to determine whether someone in the house may have been targeted as there were numerous unrelated people who live there. “There were other people in the house who were unrelated to the victim, so police don’t know right now what the circumstances are, who may have been targeted inside the house or around the house. They’re trying to talk to as many people as (we) can, who were in the area of the house, who were in the house at the time to try and determine what a motive could’ve possibly been,” Howard County police spokesman Seth Hoffman said.The Council on American-Islamic Relations released a statement, saying: “We urge anyone with information about this horrific crime to contact authorities immediately and help bring justice for this family. Our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones, and especially to the infant in critical condition.
