SIX PEOPLE SHOT INCLUDING AN OFF-DUTY BIRMINGHAM POLICE OFFICER WHO WAS PATRONIZING THE BUSINESS, WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY WAY WITH A SHOOTOUT WITH ANY SUSPECT. AS FOR THE SUSPECT, WE DON’T HAVE ONE. AS IS THE CASE ANYTIME A BIRMINGHAM POLICE OFFICER, ANY OFFICER IS INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING LIKE THIS, THE INVESTIGATION IS TURNED OVER TO THE STATE AUTHORITIES AS A MATTER OF COURSE. WHETHER A WEAPON WAS DISCHARGED OR NOT. THAT IS TYPICAL IN THIS PLACE. THE LEAH IS HANDLING THIS — ALEA HANDLING THIS. WE BELIEVE TAKEN TO UAB HOSPITAL IN DECENT CONDITION. SOUNDS LIKE HE IS GOING TO PULL THROUGH. ONE OF THE PATRONS AMONG THE SIX HAS PASSED AWAY. THIS APPARENTLY HAPPENED AT A MOTORCYCLE CLUB IN THE 4200 BLOCK OF 18TH STREET IN ENSLEY, BEFORE MIDNIGHT. WE HAVE CREWS ON THE SCENE. SIX PEOPLE SHOT, ONE OF THEM IS DEAD, ANOTHER PERSON INJURED. OFF-DUTY BIRMINGHAM POLICE OFFICER BELIEVES TO BE SUFFERING — BELIEVED TO BE SUFFERING INJURIES. LOOKING AT UAB, YOU CAN SEE A NUMBER OF POLICE VEHICLES WITH THE LIKES FLASHING. THIS WAS CUSTOMARY. WE WOULD PRESUME THE OFFICER IS INSIDE. SERGEANT MAULDIN SAYING THE OFFICER INVOLVED, OFF-DUTY AND NOT SUFFERING FROM LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES, IS EXPECTED TO PULL THROUGH. NUMBER OF SHOTS FIRED. A TERRIBLE EPISODE THAT HAPPENED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WE WILL BE SORTING THAT OUT AS THE HOURS GO ON. WE ARE ON THE SCENE. WE HAVE BEEN FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS. TOOK A WHILE FOR POLICE TO SORT THROUGH AND GIVE US SOME PRELIMINARY INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE. A LOT OF INVESTIGATION GOING ON BECAUSE THERE DOESN’T APPEAR TO BE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY NOW OR ONE THEY CAN NAME. IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION, YOU ARE ASKED TO CALL THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THEY ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING THAT INVOLVED SIX PEOPLE INCLUDING AN OFF-DUTY OFFICER WHO IS GOING TO PULL THROUGH.
