New Albany High School boys basketball head coach Jim Shannon is very close to reaching a milestone.Shannon is one victory shy of getting his 600th career win as a head coach. “I think we won three games my first year coaching varsity basketball,” said Shannon. “At some point, I may have been 10-38 or something. I thought, ‘Will I ever see 500?’ in terms of wins and losses.”Not all of his career wins have come at New Albany, but most of them have. Shannon will have a chance to get his 600th career win as a head coach when his Bulldogs host Scottsburg Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST. “You know, I’m really more interested in getting our kids playing well this year,” said Shannon. “Really can’t kind of dwell on the past. I think that’s for down the road when you retire and you can reflect on some of the things that you’ve accomplished.” His players though are hoping to help Shannon reach the milestone this weekend. “A lot of us knew it was coming up this year,” said guard Tucker Biven. “It’s obviously a huge milestone.”The Bulldogs have won three of their last four games, including a 59-48 win over Southwestern (Hanover) this past Tuesday.
