Kayak found, but still no sign of man who disappeared on lake in Elizabethtown

not a lot of information. Unfortunately I can release that. We have already provided you, but we’re gonna go ahead and provide a recorded statement. Uh at around 3 43 yesterday afternoon, we were alerted of a kayaker in distress. And Freeman Lake Park calls came in both to our Elizabeth town Police Department dispatch line as well as hardened county 911 Both police and fire crews arrived on scene in under three minutes and immediately began rescue efforts. As if 2:30 PM, the kayaker who was in distress has not been located. Our search efforts to continue and will continue until we find that individual. All I can say about his identity is that he is an adult male and Freeman Lake Park will remain closed for the duration of this search incident. Why is it taking so long? This isn’t a rib legs are typically, it’s easier to find paul seven well visible visibility is very poor. Uh The little Metro Police dive team as well as the Campbellsville Campbellsville Fire Department dive team. Both true professionals have done a beautiful job. But as a very methodical process as you can imagine, put a blindfold on and and crawl around your hands and knees would be quite challenging. In 100 and 70 acre uh field now add water to it. And it’s it’s a very challenging task. This just saw this person about 152 guards short how water is. Uh, the area that we’ve been searching is into the 15 to 20 ft depth range. You know, as I said earlier, we did receive multiple calls. Uh, One of those calls. One of the first callers was park staff. Uh they observed him and again immediately went to his aid. But unfortunately unable to uh, to locate him and help, has it been so difficult to bye? His identity is unknown, but his identity is known. We’re withholding that information just pending family notification. How large certain. So the lake again roughly 170 acres. And as I said, well I haven’t said, but it’s, I would say roughly 1/4 of that is an area that we’re kind of focusing on right now and that’s just based on witness testimony, anything panel. What? Yes. So the kayak that he was in, we do have that. Does anyone know if he was wearing a lot of at this time it’s still under investigation again, we have not located him. So I’m not really able to comment on that those details will be provided as they become available. What are you learning from the family after speaking to them? Was this just a routine kayaking trip? Has this person done this several times today? Just yesterday? In terms of the frequency that he’s kayak? I don’t know the answer to that. Uh, he was surrounded by both close friends and family at the time of the incident when it occurred. So it’s very traumatic to them. And uh, you know, our most sincere thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected, It’s a very tragic event. There are other day, Couple of eyewitnesses who say, you know, an incident happened happening like this year, three minute. It’s kind of just wow. Yes, it’s so, you know, it’s kayaking occurs here, kayaking, kayaking and paddle boats or, and, and, and row boats are out daily multiple times a day. But we have never encountered any type of, we’ve never had a drowning at this lake mentioned he was surrounded by, right? Yeah. There are no, there were other boaters on, on the lake. Uh, whether or not they were the family members and friends. I’m not I’m not sure but I do know on the shore there were both family and friends. Yeah. At this time I’m still not sure about that as well. There’s a lot of details that we haven’t been able to clarify and verify. You say distress examine distress. What is that? You know, it sounds like that he was he was flailing and asking for help, asking for assistance and just explaining that he was in trouble and in need of immediate assistance. And again our firefighters responded swiftly and did a beautiful job. They were they entered the water immediately after arriving. And we’re in the area where he was last seen literally within, within just a few short minutes reason to believe that the area is going to be expanded from that you guys are really concentrating on maybe. Well, you know, our hope is that we’ll be able to resolve this as quickly as possible. Obviously, once we have completely and thoroughly searched that area, if we don’t find what we’re looking for, that, we’re gonna have to expand outside of that area. But we believe we have a good coordinated area of of uh where this likely took place the feedback for you. So they a little surprised they have, you know, it’s I think every situation is different and situation dictates tactics uh to my knowledge that dive team has never probably uh dove in this body of water, so they’re not familiar with it. Again, they’re true professionals, they’re equipped with the best of the best of equipment. And so to say they’re surprised. I don’t know, but it’s it’s a very methodical process to watch and frankly it’s quite impressive. Yeah. Yes, starts like how long is this? Like? I’m not sure when this lake was impounded. I know I’ve been It’s been here since the mid 80s for sure. And I think it predates that frequent this part. Yeah, so it’s it’s closed through the duration uh when we conclude our investigation and conclude the search will be able to reopen the part. But right now our full focus is uh on on on this this investigation and also just maintain privacy for all those affected by this horrible tragedy. 52. You know, it was it was somewhere between um a third of the way toward the center to the center of the Lakers where we believe he was last seen in terms of exact distance. I’m not able to say there investigate. No. You know, it’s it’s I’m not gonna speculate on what caused this tragic accident, but anytime you’re around the body of water, it’s very very important to exercise extreme measures of safety, any and all that are available to you. Again, it’s unknown what caused this, but it’s very important that we exercise that range for us. Unfortunately, the way we have it right now is as far as we’re, as close as we’re gonna be able to get right now, it’s just, it’s a, it’s a scene that we’re investigating, and we’re not going to, uh, risk compromising any integrity of that scene.
