A driver was arrested after an alleged drunk driving crash that killed a man in Louisville.The crash was reported around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 7900 block of S. Third Street, near Iroquois Park.Police said an SUV and a motorcycle collided while the SUV was making an opposing left-hand turn.The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Gregory Ray, 52.The driver of the SUV, Carl Maertz, 63, was taken into custody. Police said he was “under the influence” at the time of the crash.Officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath. When asked about it, Maertz said he had not had anything to drink, but a test showed the presence of alcohol. He then changed his story, saying he had one beer and was on several medications.He also failed to maintain balance, officers said.Maertz is now charged with murder, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. His bond was set at $100,000 and his license was suspended. Maertz’ next court appearance is June 24.
