The Bellarmine Knights men’s basketball started the new year out strong, earning its first home win as an NCAA Division-I team on Friday. The Knights beat the Transylvania Pioneers — of the NCAA Division-III — 90-40 to get their first win at Freedom Hall. “From a Division-I standpoint, they will always be the first to ever to win a game in this unbelievable Freedom Hall,” Bellarmine head coach Scott Davenport’s message to the locker room following the team’s win. The Knights jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. Bellarmine junior guard Pedro Bradshaw led all scorers with 20 points, making eight of his nine shots from the field and grabbing eight rebounds. The Knights are now 2-3 on the season. They’ll have a quick turnaround, playing on Saturday night, hosting Mount Saint Joseph. That’ll be their last game before starting ASUN play.
